3EasyQuestions™

A Different Kind of Direction

Besides being an effective means whereby even brand new students can get their own heads to move forward and up in their very first lesson, 3EasyQuestions™ is a power tool for teachers.

After inhibiting, Question#1 facilitates the head/neck reflex, increasing Ease throughout the body. Question#2 sets the stage by acknowledging the improvement which Question#3 then frames as an experiment.

In each phase of the process our neurology is changing because in response to the original intent, you’re making conscious choices outside habit, leaving space for more natural responses.

3EasyQuestions™ works hand in glove with The Etudes™, a series of activities so simple they help us shift our focus from the results of the movements to the process we use to get them.

For teachers, 3EasyQuestions™ sets the stage for your being able to know exactly when you are interfering with your Use and gives you a concrete way use that interference to begin improving.

SubtleMovementEmpathy™

Enhancing Your Hands-On

Like any activity, hands-on teaching is subject to a ton of hidden habits. Like any skill, the quality of your hands-on work is a function of the quality of your Use.

SubtleMovementEmpathy™ is a graduated progression of self-studies that will accelerate the development of both your sensitivity and your ability to convey direction to your students using your hands.

It exploits the depth of the intercommunication that occurs as a result of our mirror neurons and other neural mechanisms.

You’ll learn how to leverage the simultaneity that’s at the heart of the way we communicate. You will be able to bring more clarity, finesse and power to your hands-on kinesthetic guidance.

Teachers are finding that they can give their students even more help and they can do it in a way that promotes a student’s independence and feeds their enthusiasm for more learning.

TheÉtudes™

How to Practice Ease

Inhibition, non-doing, directing, constructive thinking, non-endgaining etc. are more than just concepts, they are skills. Skills that, in order to be mastered, need to be practiced.

Being a musician, I realized early on that if I wanted my students to progress quickly, I had to create skill building activities whose primary focus would be on developing their thinking process as opposed to being oriented around achieving results.

TheEtudes™ that we will be exploring in the TheCoachingClub start with TheTeacher’s12™, a collection of studies that will help you to become more aware of exactly when and how you interfere with your coordination.

As with all Primal Alexander activities, our  purpose is to be addressing The Primary Concern: “What’s happening to my Use as I_______?” How is the way I’m doing this affecting my Use?

Our awareness of the effect our thinking choices are having on our Use during an ongoing activity is the essence of “thinking in activity” and The Études™ greatly heighten our ability to do just that.

Community

IT TAKES A VILLAGE
I think it does “take a village” to best teach this stuff. The synergy that happens when the learning is communal is magical and this certainly holds
true when it comes to the development
of teaching skills as well.

What has amazed me is that the quality of the peer-to peer learning is almost as high when people are not in the same physical space. We can benefit so much from each other even via video.

The regular opportunity to come together & work
with like-minded colleagues sharing the
challenges and the victories of this work is
a truly precious commodity.

Alexander teacher training has been done in a group setting from its inception. It’s how we all learned how to teach! And to be able to do it in a way that is so time & cost efficient and so effective as well is a gift.

Proactive Self-Care

MAGNANIMOUS SELFISHNESS
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned as a teacher began the very first time I ever attempted teaching. It was the final day of my 1st Summer workshop in Nebraska with Marjorie Barstow.

After watching me fumble around for 10 seconds or so, Marj gently took my hands down off the person I was working on and said: “Mio, you are the most important person in any lesson. If you can’t take care of yourself, how can you hope to help them?”

It took me many years before I really understood the depth of the wisdom in those words. Our power as teachers comes from our ability to enter positive learning states & then help our
students do the same.

I like to think of it as “magnanimous selfishness”. By being proactive in our own self-care we automatically share the regenerative wisdom
of our psycho-physical selves with others.

Home Improvement

THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME
As nice as it can be to travel to a residential workshop in a pleasant place, you can’t beat the convenience of being in a learning community
that meets weekly in your living room!

Not to mention the time and money you’ll save not having to travel, pay for a room & pay for food.
You won’t have to disrupt your
daily routine, sleep in a strange bed and ultimately
spend much less time learning life-altering
lessons with like-minded colleagues.

The immense value of having easy and regular
access to a quality A.T. mastermind led
by an innovative teacher with almost 50 years
of experience cannot be overstated.

We are all working hard to continue to develop our
work on ourselves and our teaching. Having an
easily accessible community for support and
“course correction” is a wonderful benefit.

We have FUN!

SERIOUS FUN!
Meeting Dr. Frank Pierce Jones in 1972 and coming into contact with Alexander’s teachings quite literally
saved my life. I was a young musician flirting with
disaster. Dangerously close to going off the deep end.

Frank epitomized what it means to be “a gentleman and a scholar”. Marjorie Barstow was the quintessence of straightforward, clear-eyed
personal experimentation. They both created intensely positive learning environments
that still inform my efforts.

Alexander work can at times be gut-wrenchingly personal and deeply confronting. We can really get down to the DNA of who we are, who we think
we are and who in the future we could become.

We have a ton of fun in our classes. It’s essential. Being able to share a self-deprecating chuckle at our silly selves is the healthy leavening that takes the edge off the seismic transformations that are part and parcel of applying Alexander’s discoveries in public.

Here’s What Other
Teachers Are Saying…

The Facebook group between classes was incredibly valuable…

I was really glad to have the opportunity to encounter the Primal Alexander études again a year later and see how much they have evolved. I’m so grateful to have gotten more information on these really effective tools .

What I found most valuable was the opportunity to see how other people were bringing these tools into their own lives and experiments. The Facebook group between classes was incredibly valuable. It really helped me stay with my own experiments and it was also really valuable to see what other people were up to.

The group assembled was wonderful and the whole way the teaching process has been honed over time really makes me look forward to having the opportunity to learn more soon.

Mio has given me tools that can infuse a deeper sense of ease into any experience.

When I began attending classes, Mio’s emphasis on self-observation and wondering about ease really began to spill over into my daily life. My understanding of the Technique became much clearer – to the point that one of the most stressful years of my life also became one of the best.

Over recent months, I have watched my technique transform and my musical expression deepen with unimaginable ease. I now have the  tools to continue doing this for myself. I am now comfortable calling myself a “violinist” again, and I know this is only the beginning – which I find extremely exciting!

Now, thanks to the class, I’m feeling that as I get older my future will be bright, it will be fun and it will always be full of new wonders

Before Mio’s class I couldn’t imagine learning A.T. online. To me, A.T. was about how I moved my body. With online lessons I’ve found that the key is my thinking. By experimenting and observing I can improve myself by myself and the speed of change is amazing!

I can take a lesson anywhere even in a hotel room on business. I’m much more relaxed and can express my emotions more easily around people. I used to get stressed by demanding too much of myself and had a vague sense of anxiety about my future. Now, thanks to the class, I’m feeling that as I get older my future will be bright, it will be fun and it will always be full of new wonders

I seem to be much more alert & sensitive to the nuances within each moment.

Lately my constructive thinking has become more dynamic.  I seem to be much more alert and sensitive to the nuances within each moment.  My tension early warning system is proactive, offering me the opportunity for choice. In a split second!

What strikes me is how simple this all is. I’m able to use constructive thinking in a laboratory-like setting which has been very valuable for integrating it into other aspects of my daily life.

I miss our weekly sessions.

Mio is great at teaching without ever making you feel like you’re wrong.

Since working with Mio my way of understanding AT has gotten so much deeper. I feel a lot calmer these days and I can see things more as they really are. I’m much less judgmental and I’m beginning to understand just what “Non-Endgaining” really means! My self-confidence has grown a lot, and no matter what happens, I’m able to deal with things much more constructively.

In our classes we experience an incredibly warm and tender atmosphere which in my experience is very rare. Mio is great at teaching without ever making you feel like you’re wrong. We freely share our experiences and what we’re learning and that makes our personal changes even more powerful. There is truth here.

I hope in this life everyone has a chance to work with him. Thanks, Mio!

What can I say about Mio? Well, for starters, no single person has had a more profound effect on my physical well being. Meeting him was the beginning of a long period of being pain free. And not pain free in the sense that someone healed me…but pain free in the sense that I now have ‘control’ over my own well being.

What Mio teaches is that A.T. is something you both do for yourself and allow to happen. I’ve spent most of the last decade trying to forget everything I ever learned, from yoga directions to Alexander’s classic directions…All you have to do is Notice the Ease…It’s so much more effective and simple!

I hope in this life everyone has a chance to work with him. Thanks, Mio!

Hey…Thanks for taking the time to check out TheCoachingClub. I hope you’ve found this page informative.

We are so lucky to have somehow come across Alexander’s discoveries, recognized their potential to change our life and then made the decision to share that bounty with others. But it hasn’t always been an easy path to follow!

Communicating the value of this work has been a challenge for every generation of Alexander Technique teacher starting with Alexander himself. The times we live in, I think, offer the greatest challenges to us as purveyors of his work and at the same time offer unprecedented opportunities.

Technology has afforded us with the means whereby to reach future students anywhere there’s an internet connection. But even more importantly, it give us the ability to come together with minimal effort and expense to pool our resources. To share our personal research and crowdsource solutions to the problems we all share.

When it comes to Alexander’s ideas we are the braintrust, the constructive think(ing)tank. And the more often we can gather together and ask each the tough, age-old questions and “kick the tires” on a few new ideas, the faster we’ll find better and better ways to share Alexander’s genius with a world that has never need it more.

Thanks again for your attention and for all of your passion and hard work,

Sincerely,

Mio
